“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV
This Sunday, we celebrate Easter, the resurrection of our Savior. Some of us will put on our finest dresses and suits. Some of us will color eggs and have egg hunts with our children. Some of us will go out for a special meal, while others may prepare a huge dinner at home. Whatever the tradition of the day, I hope we will stop and reflect on the sacrifice our Savior made for us… for you and for me… for anyone and everyone who will accept Him.
For you and for me…
He was whipped. {“…he had scourged Jesus…” (Matthew 27:26 KJV).}
He was mocked. {“…and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!” (Matthew 27:29 KJV).}
He was spit on. {“And they spit upon him…” (Matthew 27:30 KJV).}
He was hit. {“…and smote him on the head” (Matthew 27:30 KJV).}
He was crucified. {“And they crucified Him…” (Matthew 27:35 KJV).}
Because of Jesus, we can have eternal life. When we believe in Jesus and accept His gift, our sins are forgiven. Not only will we spend eternity with our Lord, but we also are filled with the peace that only comes through Jesus and the assurance that nothing can ever separate us from Him.
- “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 KJV
- “For I am persuaded that neither life, nor death, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 KJV
This week, as we look toward Easter, let’s not go through the motions and get caught up in our traditions. Let’s pause and reflect on all our Savior endured for us. Let’s lift our hands in praise and give thanks that He loves us so much He would suffer this gruesome punishment in our place. And let’s give thanks that, through His blood, we can never be separated from our Father.
If we know Jesus, we are never alone and never will be. So, let’s not isolate ourselves. Let’s spend time with Him every day: talking to Him, walking with Him, and studying His Word.
