What Will I Wear Today?

By F. D. Adkins

Now that I am older, I put a bit more thought into making sure that I am dressed for whatever elements I might encounter in the place where I am going. For example, if it is cold outside and I am going to a ballgame, I will wear multiple layers. I’ve even been known to wear snow pants for the insulation, even though it is not snowing. If I go to the beach, I wear plenty of sunscreen. My comfort overshadows my appearance. I do not want to be cold, nor do I want to endure the pain of a sunburn for days. If I am prepared and wearing the right protective gear, I will not be bothered by things that could cause discomfort.

This past week, I worked to memorize Ephesians 6:13-17, in which Paul details each piece of our spiritual armor. Why would we need spiritual armor? In Ephesians 6:11, Paul tells us, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil,” and a couple of verses later in Ephesians 6:13, he reiterates, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (KJV).

As I recited my memory verses over and over last week, the words, “…having done all…,” stood out to me as if they were written in bold letters, and this sudden epiphany exploded inside my head. If I do not consciously put on every piece of the armor of God every day, then I am not doing “all” to prepare myself for the enemy’s attacks.

So, first thing each morning, I hope you will join me in making every effort to put on the whole armor of God so that we are doing ‘all’ to protect ourselves from the enemy because we know the battle is real. And what soldier would go into battle without the proper gear and protection?

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 KJV

This past week has been very difficult for me. I’ve taken covid for the very first time. I have had every vaccine and booster and only two weeks away from my next booster. Now I get it. Well I will continue my boosters. God has took care of me and He will get me through this too. I’ve had on my armor and am fighting the battle. Thanks Farrah!
