Bible verse: “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4 KJV

Bible Reading: Matthew 23:37-39; Luke 13:34-35; Psalm 91:1-5

I watched out the window, admiring his beauty. He made the same trek every evening through our backyard, and every day, I wondered if I would get to see him the next evening. I wish I could keep him safe… somehow communicate the danger that lay outside of our property lines. The hunters lurking on the lands surrounding us would consider a buck of his stature a trophy kill. Yet, he was a wild animal, and I could not confine him or force him to stay in the shelter of our land. He was free to roam wherever he chose.

I am reminded of Jesus’s words to Jerusalem in Matthew 23:37: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, …how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!” (King James Version). As a mother chicken protects her babies beneath her wing, Jesus longs to keep us safe in a close relationship with Him. He knows the dangers scouring and prowling in the darkness when we veer from the light of His path. Yet, He will not force us to stay under His wing. We must choose to walk with Him daily. Just as hunters lie in wait in the woods, seeking that prize buck, 1 Peter 5:8 says that our “… adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (KJV). May we choose to walk with Jesus every day, spending time in God’s word, arming ourselves with His truth, remaining in constant communion with Him.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2 KJV

What a beautiful blog. I don’t see how even one day we could go without the Lord. Life is filled with such evil. I know that I need God all day, everyday to feel safe & protected. He is always with us. We should start everyday with His Holy Word and keep Him in our hearts all the time.
