Sometimes our problems can make us feel so minuscule. As we have been preparing to move this week, we have been packing up the stuff we will not need for a while. All I can say is that I have no idea how so much stuff accumulates. In the attic, I had four plastic tubs full of my kids’ drawings and old schoolwork. Well, at least those things have sentimental value. Today, I pulled nine throw pillows from under my bed. I must have thought they were good pillows and could not find anywhere else to put them. And then, on top of packing up needless things that seemed to have grown exponentially since we have lived here, I have fallen behind on keeping up with emails and other chores. Tonight, to say that my mind is overwhelmed would be an understatement.
Obstacles, workload, problems, trials, tribulation… sometimes these things can make us feel so small like the man in the picture staring up at the huge rock wall. And yet, as my to-do list seems to me to be like this rock wall that is way too high and impossible to scale, I know that is not true. “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37 KJV).
David conquered a giant with a stone. Noah built a boat by hand that was so grand that it defied anything imaginable during that time. Joseph rose from a pit to slavery to a position where he saved his family. Daniel survived a den of lions. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walked out of a fiery furnace unsinged.
How? “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37 KJV. God has proven that again and again.
And after I recall all that God has done, not only in the stories in the Bible but in my own life, I know that those rock walls that seem impossible to us are nothing for our God. And if we trust in Him completely, He is there holding us up as we scale the wall.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 KJV
