The TRUTH is still there. We can close our eyes and turn our heads, but the TRUTH is still there.
God told Jeremiah to write down the words He had spoken to him concerning the judgments that God was bringing upon these people because they had continued to turn from God, refusing to repent of their evil ways. When the message that Jeremiah had written down was read before King Jehoiakim, the king sliced it into pieces with his knife and burned it.
He might have burned the page… but the TRUTH in the words… GOD’S WORDS… was still there. Destroying the message did not erase the judgment that was coming.
As I studied Jeremiah 36 this week, I wondered what the king was thinking as he cut the message and tossed it into the fire. Did he think that getting rid of the written words would change what was to come?
And then, I thought of our society today. We have God’s Word. We cannot slice, dice, and pick which parts of the Bible we want to believe or adhere to. The Bible in its entirety is the Word of God. We know that Jesus will return for God’s children, and we know that judgment will come along with the consequences of choosing not to accept Him as Savior and Lord.
Ignoring or altering the message will not change the outcome.
In Matthew 6:24, Jesus says, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other…,” and in Matthew 12:30, He warns, “He that is not with me is against me…” (KJV).
Just as we cannot go right and left at the same time, we cannot follow the world and Jesus.
CHOOSE JESUS.
