Sharing Our Thanksgiving Meal
Sharing Our Thanksgiving Meal

By F. D. Adkins

Since this week is Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun if we shared some recipes. Preparing the Thanksgiving feast is a great way to spend time together as a family. So, I decided to share a recipe that hopefully children and adults can have fun with. The ingredients are hidden in verses of the Bible. The amount is listed with a reference to a Bible verse. I have also included the Bible verse with a blank to show where that specific ingredient is located. All of these verses are from the King James Version. However, after you look up the verse, I have created a key at the end that gives the exact ingredient (ex. the type of sugar to be used).

I hope your family enjoys this. Please respond in the comments below by sharing your favorite Thanksgiving recipe. Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV

Tomorrow is my Mom’s first Thanksgiving in Heaven. and I continue to think on what that must be like in the presence of Jesus…. this Thanksgiving for Mom. And that keeps me smiling more than crying this year. And you see, my Mom is “in” Heaven because she trusted In Jesus as her personal Savior. So its not just something I say. It is real & she is more alive than she has ever been.

So Happy Thanksgiving Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving Mom.

And in honor of my Mom…. here is a Thanksgiving recipe that my Mom always made & only at Thanksgiving. And we could not wait each year to taste it:

    DR PEPPER SALAD

    2 cups Dr Pepper, chilled
    2 boxes raspberry Jello
1 – 16 oz can crushed pineapple, drained (reserve juices)
2 small jars whole maraschino cherries – slice in halfed, drain cherries (reserve juices)
    1 cup English walnutes, chopped

    Drain pineapple completely, saving juices.
Drain cherries completely, saving juices. Slice in half.
Bring fruit juices to a boil.
Measure to 1 3/4 cups after boiling (if needed add Dr Pepper to make 1 3/4 cups liquid)
    Dissolve Jello in hot liquid.
    Stir until completely dissolved.
Add 2 cups chilled Dr Pepper
Chill until Jello begins to thicken (it is beautiful to place in a pretty glass bowl, like a crystal bowl)
Add cherry halves, crushed pineapple and English walnuts.
    Stir.
    Chill until firm before serving.

Some people often think this dish appears to be cranberries & for those who do not like cranberry salad, etc – this is a good alternative. It is great with turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving Jesus – Happy Thanksgiving Mom

Like Denise, I never for a second doubted my Mother was with Jesus in heaven. She was a wonderful Christion woman who even slept with her Bible. This recipe was my Mother’s and we all loved it.
    Mamaw’s Potato Salad
    2/3 bag Idaho potatoes
    6 boiled eggs
    1 medium onion–diced
    2/3 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
    1 1/2 TBSP. yellow mustard
    2/3 cup of mayonnaise
    Salt & pepper to taste

Peel & dice potatoes. rinse, put in a pot & cover with water, cook on high until boiling. turn down on medium heat until tender.
Next boil 6 eggs , after cool, peel, rinse & pat dry with paper towel . Dice & set aside in a large bowl. Now that potatoes are done, drain them and add to diced boiled eggs. Add diced sweet onions, sugar, vinegar, mustard, mayonnaise, & salt & pepper to taste. Gently mix these ingredients together. Taste test to see if you may need to add a little more sugar, vinegar, or mayonnaise. Put into a tupperware container and sprinkle with paprika. Cover & Refrigerate until ready to serve.
