By F. D. Adkins
Glowing hands with fingers of fire reach up from somewhere below clawing and slashing at me. The sound of flesh ripping and tearing floats up from beneath the hands, and bloodcurdling screams of pain plead and wail for help. A haunting stench rises in the smoke and creeps up my nostrils torturing me with a horrific scent, a smell that could only signify death.
Tears flood down my face as the whispers surround me shooting darts at my heart from every angle… “You are alone… Alo-o-o-ne.”
A loud crack of thunder booms sending tremors like an earthquake. The darkness above me splits open in the shape of a jagged lightning bolt. Bright radiating light pours down on my face and a breath fills my lungs with cool, fresh air.
A penetrating, but unexplainably comforting voice resonates out of the light, “My seal is upon her. She belongs to me. She is my child. Flee from her.”
The darkness, the whispers, the hands, the screams, the sounds of torture, it all fades away, and there is only light. Cool air swirls around my body, and I am floating in the breeze.
Excerpt from TRUTH IN THE WORD (Book TWO of the TRUTH Series) by F. D. Adkins
In this excerpt above from Book Two of the TRUTH series, the enemy is tormenting one of the characters, trying to convince her that she is alone. But because she has accepted Christ, the enemy’s tactics cannot tear her from the hands of God. She cannot be separated from her Father.
This week, I chose Romans 8:38-39 to recite daily and commit to memory. “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (KJV).
Because of Jesus and His sacrifice, nothing can separate us from the love of God. Our enemy, the devil, often tries to cloud our thoughts and convince us otherwise. He may try to dredge up our past mistakes. He may try to make us feel unworthy. He may try to isolate us and try to convince us that we are alone.
My verses for this week were written by Paul in his letter to the Romans. And we know that prior to Paul’s encounter on the road to Damascus, he had persecuted Christians and had them put in prison where some were put to death. But Paul knew that Jesus had wiped that past sin away. Because of Jesus, nothing could separate Paul from the love of God.
When we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we have God’s seal, the Holy Spirit, that identifies us as His children. We are renewed, and our past mistakes are washed away because of the blood shed by our Savior. Our Creator is all-knowing. He knew the choices Paul would make before Paul entered the world, yet He loved Paul enough to send His only son to save him. Our Creator knew every choice we would make before he formed us, yet despite our shortcomings and mistakes, He loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us.
When the enemy whispers those lies, let’s wield the sword of TRUTH.
“FOR I AM PERSUADED THAT NEITHER DEATH, NOR LIFE, NOR ANGELS, NOR PRINCIPALITIES, NOR POWERS, NOR THINGS PRESENT, NOR THINGS TO COME, NOR HEIGHT, NOR DEPTH, NOR ANY OTHER CREATURE, SHALL BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD, WHICH IS IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.”
Romans 8:38-39 KJV
Friends, things in this world will come and go, BUT NOTHING CAN EVER CHANGE GOD’S LOVE FOR US. Cling to that Truth.
