“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV
How many times I have read this verse, yet over the past few days, the depth of these words has penetrated to the core of my soul.
Last week, my family had to say goodbye to our pet of thirteen and a half years. But to us, she was a member of our family. My son was seven, and my daughter was four when we got our beautiful, brindle boxer. I knew my kids would love her, but honestly, I never imagined that they would have spent so much time and have such a bond with her. From the time Lucy joined our family at six weeks old, she was their best friend. They played games with her, read to her, had tea parties with her, and dressed her in all sorts of costumes. I would think most dogs might get frustrated and even hide, but Lucy enjoyed every minute. The three of them grew up together.
And now, my son is twenty years old and off to college. My daughter is seventeen, a high school senior, about to embark on her own new college journey.
“To every thing there is a season…”
Lucy was there every step of the way as my kids grew, and as hard it was and is to say goodbye (oh… how I miss her so bad), we were so blessed to have been able to share so many years with her. Lucy lived beyond the age of most in her breed, and in my heart, I know she held on so long for my children. They were her purpose. A new season is beginning for my children as they continue to find the path God has created for them, and my husband and I as we learn to let go and let them find their path. But LUCY ANGEL ADKINS will forever be in our hearts.
Friends, let us not take one day that God has gifted us for granted. Let us wake up each morning focused on His purpose for our lives.
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14 KJV
We know our time on earth is temporary. Let us run our race here with endurance, so when we cross the finish line, we can hear our Father say, “…Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21 KJV.
