A Mother’s Love

A Mother’s Love
A Mother's Love

In honor of Mother’s Day, I am taking a brief detour from my study on Revelation to reflect on a woman whose actions landed her a spot in the Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith.

In the Book of Exodus, chapter two details the story of a woman who has just given birth to a son. As a mother, she must have been horrified. The Pharoah had ordered all newborn boys to be thrown into the river. But this mother was not going to cower to the king’s order. She hid her son. How? I don’t know, but she did for three months. When she could not hide him anymore, she made a basket from bulrushes and sealed it with pitch to make it waterproof. And then, in a giant step of faith, she placed it in the reeds by the riverbank. Of course, we know that the baby was Moses, and we are informed in Exodus 6:20 that his mother’s name was Jochebed. However, her faith is so notable that it is listed in Hebrews 11 in what many refer to as the ‘hall of faith’.

“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.” Hebrews 11:23 KJV

Jochebed is a Godly example of a mother’s love. She would have done anything to protect her son and placed her faith above her fear. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (KJV). As mothers, I pray that we lay that foundation rooting our children in Christ, and that our children do not just hear us speak of our faith, but that they see us acting in faith.

This made me think about my Mom today. My was was a wonderful Christian lady! She gave me the foundation for being a Christian ✝️ and how to live for Him. She always had the Bible open and she was reading as long as her eyes allowed everyday. She would tell me things from the Bible, many, many, and I do mean many things that I remember and treasure to this day. I miss her so much and I love her with all my heart ❤.
