From my past blogs, everyone knows how much I love animals. Well, I have an amazing story from this weekend that I knew had to turn into a blog post.
Saturday morning, my husband had already left to go work on our house, and as usual, I finish getting ready and then take our coffee over. As I pull up the drive, my husband is working on the laddering putting in the wiring for our outside lights by the garage. I load my arms with our coffee cups, my water, a coke, and a biscuit and somewhere in the midst of all that, I tuck my phone under my arm. As I amble toward the house where my husband is working, he starts to motion with his hand toward the woods. I look over, and here comes a white turkey strutting right out of the trees. I am desperately trying to get to my phone to take a picture, but I can’t because of all the stuff in my hands. I am afraid to move too much because I am afraid that I will scare him away. Finally, I squat down, put all my stuff on the ground, and get my phone. This turkey comes right on up to my husband on the ladder. This turkey almost nods off to sleep once and eventually just lays down. As you can see above, I got my photos… and a few videos too.
Well, I am sure you are awaiting my point, and how I turned this into a Bible study. Well, this morning, I was thinking about that turkey. Who would ever expect a white turkey to come walking out of the woods? I mean we are talking about acres and acres of woods. And of all times for a Kodak moment, my hands were full. I wasn’t prepared.
The Bible tells us that we do not know when Jesus will come back, but we should be ready.
- “Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” Luke 12:40 KJV
- “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:2 KJV
What will happen if we are not ready (or in my example if our hands are too full)?
Look at the words of Jesus… the words in red.
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:36-42 KJV
Jesus is coming back. And when He does, let’s make sure that our hands aren’t full of the things of this world. Let’s have our eyes on Heaven, watching and ready for Him to take us home. When that moment comes, there won’t be a second chance to empty our hands.
